Oddments and Things

A cabinet of curiosities for books and board games -- odd little finds worth a second look.

About

Illustrated portrait of Cole Everett

Taxidermist and natural-history preparator, contract work for a small local museum. Came to reading and games as an adult, through the quiet hours of methodical solo work rather than a lifelong hobby.

I do taxidermy and specimen prep, mostly on contract for a small natural history museum here in Providence, plus whatever comes through the workshop on my own time. It's slow, exact work, the kind where a bad afternoon means redoing something you can't see from across the room but you'll know is wrong forever. I got into reading and games later than most people who write about them online, not through a childhood collection but through the quiet hours that kind of work leaves you with. I read mostly hard SF and dense nonfiction, the kind of book that makes you double back a paragraph, and I play games with a small group I actually trust rather than whoever's around on a given night.

Where I am: Providence, Rhode Island

Started this mostly to keep a record of what I'd actually finished. Turned into more than that.

What's here

Book reviews, board game reviews, and whatever else I feel like writing about. No schedule, no affiliate links, nothing sponsored. I write about a book or a game when I've actually finished it and have something to say, which is why the dates on here are irregular.

Tally

30 posts and counting.

No ads, no affiliate links, nothing sponsored — just an inventory of what I've read and played.
